Unit 4: Where We Are in Place and Time

The transdisciplinary theme, Where we are in place and time prepares the students to an inquiry into orientation in place and time, personal histories, homes and journeys, discoveries, explorations, and migration of humankind, the relationships between and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations, from local and global perspectives.

In this unit, Preschoolers will be looking at the Central Idea Personal histories allow us to reflect on and celebrate growth and change

The Lines of Inquiry are:

Important events that lead to change and Personal change from birth to present: self and family

As we dive deeper in the unit, they will understand Key Concepts:

  • Perspectives "What are the different points of view?"
  • Responsibility "What are our obligations?"
  • Change "How is it transforming?"
Preschoolers will also understand related concepts about beliefs, values and adaptation. They will continue developing their skills in thinking and researching and will work on becoming a risk-taker and open-minded.

Here are some ideas how you can help your child prepare for the unit at home:
  • Talk about your family history
  • Explain the reasons why your family or any members of your family moved from different places
  • Share some of your personal journeys
  • Share their personal milestones when they were growing up
  • and of course... how you, mom and dad met each other!

Happy Spring from the Perky Preschoolers!!

ENERGY IN PRESCHOOL

FOOD CHAIN An order in which living things depend on each other for food. We have identified food as one of the things living things need to live.  This is the same for both plants and animals. However, we are not as lucky as the plants - they can make their own food!  The sun helps them make food through the process called ' photosynthesis'.   And because of this special power, plants are called producers. They start the food chain and transfer energy to the consumers. We have learned about the different animal groups and the preschool used their knowledge to create their food chain.    They chose one animal and using their knowledge about animals, they showed how animal get their food.  Next week, we will continue with our inquiry answering the question: How do animals go through a process of change? SPORTS DAY PHOTOS   JAVELIN THROW         500 METER RUN              Oh definitely, Preschooolers are full of ENERGY!

100th Day

100th Day of School Why do we celebrate The 100th Day of School?  As the Enrollment Party at the beginning of the school year, 100th day of school is considered a big celebration and has been a tradition in Preschool.  This marks a great milestone in the children's school life.  It means that the students are halfway through the year! It is a celebration wherein they can highlight their progress and show how much they have learned through the year.   For Numeracy, they showed their skills in:  skip counting identifying numbers 1 -100 counting on to 100 pattern blocks For Literacy, they made a short story.   We also made our 100 Days Smarter hat.  We did not forget the movement part wherein we did, 10 different kinds of exercises   10 times each.  Can you guess the total?  Then the fun part of filling in the 100 chart with 100 collections they brought to school! Tamaki's 100 beans. Eisuke's 100 collections of gems, pencils, stickers and erasers. Clara's 100 beads. Yori

Working Together

TAKING ACTION The students are keeping in mind the importance of plants to all living things.  Plants - being the ONLY one that can make its own food, and Plants - being the ONLY one that gives us the air or oxygen to live. We have to do something to preserve the plants!   They started bringing all sorts of seeds to plant at school.  To watermelon seeds, onion stalks, flowers, grapes..  They chose a spot where the plants can get sunshine.  They dug the soil. Put in the seeds. And watered them. They did everything that the plants need in order to grow.    Students will take turns watering the plants daily.  Hopefully these tiny seeds will show us some sprouts before the end of the school year in Preschool.    HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES For the unit on How we express ourselves, the preschoolers used their imagination to create different art work on the ipad.  They chose their own  subject and used the different tools on the drawing app to represent it.  They they uploaded their works on se
