Reasons for celebration

What are the reasons we celebrate? There is no specific reason why people celebrate.  Depending on the beliefs, cultures, age, family background everyone will give many reasons to celebrate.  This unit has important ATLs that we are trying to develop.  Social  They worked in groups and learned how to communicate and build social connections with each other. They learned to respect different perspectives and used context and roles using dialogues.  Communication Role-play enhances language skills by using dialogue and vocabulary relevant to the role that they are portraying. It is especially beneficial for English Language Learners. Through role play we were able to target these skills while exploring the Line of Inquiry on  Reasons for celebration. 100th Day

100th Day of School Why do we celebrate The 100th Day of School?  As the Enrollment Party at the beginning of the school year, 100th day of school is considered a big celebration and has been a tradition in Preschool.  This marks a great milestone in the children's school life.  It means that the students are halfway through the year! It is a celebration wherein they can highlight their progress and show how much they have learned through the year.   For Numeracy, they showed their skills in:  skip counting identifying numbers 1 -100 counting on to 100 pattern blocks For Literacy, they made a short story.   We also made our 100 Days Smarter hat.  We did not forget the movement part wherein we did, 10 different kinds of exercises   10 times each.  Can you guess the total?  Then the fun part of filling in the 100 chart with 100 collections they brought to school! Self-expression

There are many ways for children to express themselves. Ways to show their creativity and make their imaginations come alive.  This week, the Preschoolers looked back at the whole school year in Preschool.  We have listed down all the different events we have celebrated throughout the year at DSKI. Enrolment Party, Oktoberfest, St. Martin, St. Nicolaus, Halloween Party, Christmas,  Easter, Book and Culture Week, STEM Week, Autumn and Spring Break, and more! Some of these celebrations are also practiced in their own family. These are traditions that have been passed on from one family to the next.  Why are these traditions or celebrations important?  What are ways people express the importance of these traditions and celebrations?  1. Through Music and Movements Music is important in every celebration. Some people may find it difficult to express their emotions verbally. They use music and movement to express their feelings of happiness, excitement...

Series of changes

What an exciting week it has been for the Perky Preschoolers!  A wonderful time to delve into learning about life, change and growth.  We started off the week with 'hanami' together with some of the Preschool moms.  Appreciating the time to be out there under the warmth of the beautiful sun surrounded by the the colorful sakura flowers children running after the birds, thee bees, and the butterflies It was such an amazing feeling! Being present, being in the moment.  Back in the classroom, they continued with the "See, Think and Wonder" chart from their hanami experience. As we continue to learn about how all living things go through the process of change, we have been fortunate to be visited by Ms. Faye's friend Tamami and her lovely daughters Aira and Rina.  They explained to us the process of the chicken's development.  They brought with them "Henrita", the hen, who gave away her 12 eggs for the Preschooler's safe-keeping.  The preschoolers ge...
