Student Led Conference: Empowerment and Ownership

The preschoolers becoming in charge is a way to create opportunities for reflection, engagement and agency.

As we were getting ready for the Student Led Conference, the preschoolers planned with Ms. Faye the work samples, activities and the areas that they wanted to share to their parents.

They practiced together with their friends on how to go through the conference.

During the Student Led Conference, they shared their portfolio, which they organized in their UOI notebook and in Seesaw.

They shared their strengths, weakness and what their learning goals are.

They communicated their progress and learning processes to their parents.

They challenged each other.

They taught them different strategies they used at school which may be very different on how the parents learned it before.

What made it really special was that they shared the night with their parents in celebration of the wonderful year they spent learning in Preschool!

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

A Day with Nature

From the moment we arrived at Rokkosan Pasteur, excitement was in the air.   The weather was perfect, the animals were curious, and of course the preschoolers couldn’t wait to explore! The highlight of the day? Meeting the  kids —not the classmates, but the adorable baby goats! The students were able to  feed, pet, and even cuddle the goats, horses, sheep . They were gentle and playful. Some preschoolers were a bit hesitant at first, but by the end of the visit, everyone was laughing and eagerly reaching out to connect with the animals. But this trip was about more than just the fun experience. The goal is to extend their learning about  animal care, natural habitat, and the effect of human to other iving things.  These experiences and observing how animals interact in a natural environment were learning in its most genuine form—engaging, memorable, and will have a long-lasting impact on their lives.    As the day came to an end, tired but happy p...
