Relationship with Yourself and Others

What are the different kinds of relationships? The preschoolers sorted out pictures according to similarities, connections, and relationships. Together we identified 4 kinds of relationships. 1. Romantic Relationship  2. Family Relationship 3. Friends  4. Acquaintances  Do I know my own feelings? Children should develop skills in understanding their own emotions and knowing how to react to certain situations. This emotional awareness is important for them to better know and understand themselves, their personalities and characteristics and how these affect their relationships with others.  Using the Emoji Compass Activity, the preschoolers were presented with a scenario and decided on which emojis to go: happy, angry, sad, worried or calm. They were encouraged to think for themselves and identify their own feelings as if they are in that situation.   Sample Scenario:  "You are playing a game that you really like and you lost. How would you feel?" Responses: Angry: "Becau

Never Stop Wondering and Asking Questions

I Wonder... The provocations in our Tuning In activities reinforced the preschoolers' interest and curiosity.  Now, they are starting to FIND OUT how 'Our Relationships with other build our character and personalities'.  An important key to engage them in this challenging journey is by allowing them to take the lead in their inquiry. One way is by giving them the opportunity to share their voices - through their wonderings. So, they asked questions... .   I wonder.... Why do we like others? Why do people like to cook and eat? Why are some people happy even things go wrong? Why do people hurt others even it is a 'NO'? Why do people get mad easily? Why do people give things to poor people? Why do people ignore or not look at other people sometimes? Why do people wish to be something else? These questions will guide the  inquiry of the preschoolers as they discover more about who they are and their relationships with others. Discovering Myself ...from different perspe

Discovering Who You Are

As part of the Finding Out activity, the preschoolers explored about different characters. For read-a-loud, we engaged ourselves with different stories that focused on describing different personalities and characters.  During the class discussion, the preschoolers were presented with a visual tool to help them better understand ‘characters’ in a story. Then, they discovered more about themselves by using their own photo.  This represents the student's inside and outside traits which makes them who they are. Do I know myself?  They looked at their own picture, described and wrote their physical traits on post-its. Their hair, eye, skin, clothing, mask, colors. and other things that they can see.       They also reflected about the things they like, their feelings, actions which reflect their inside traits.   I wonder how OTHER PEOPLE see me?  We have traits and qualities that we see and know that we have in us. But, are these the same traits seen by other people around you?  It w

Who We Are

Adults have a great impact in the lives of the children.  We are the most valuable resource they have during their development We can be intentional with our words with our actions and be encouraging  in their pursuit to finding out who they are. To these children our   words become theirs our  actions become their personalities and the way we relate with them nourish the seeds of their characters. Who we are, are often the very things that becomes them. - Ms. Faye - This week the Perky Preschoolers started on the new unit inquiring on  " Our relationships with others build our character and personality" under the Transdisciplinary Theme, Who We Are.
