Preschoolers ASK QUESTIONS

UNIT OF INQUIRY

How are the roles and responsibilities of the people at DSKI help make the school run smoothly?

This week preschoolers went around the school to find out the answers to their BURNING QUESTIONS.

Why do you look at the TV outside and look at the gate and the bus?
Why the bus driver pick up the students?

“Why do you Mr. Inman go to our classroom?”

“What do you do in school, Miumi-san?”

“Why do students need to learn to read and write?”

“Will schools be okay without teachers?”

Amalia asking Mr. Inman her question.

The preschoolers SORTED OUT the information they have gathered from their interview. They then made a connection to the members of the school community to the different parts of the body. They labeled each part with the members of the school community and explained why they decided to place them in each of the parts.

Thoughtful responses from the Preschoolers!

LITERACY
Preschoolers looked into another important STORY ELEMENT - The SETTING.
Setting is the place and the time in the story.

They were inspired and came up with their own idea for a story.
They imagined and drew their own character and the setting!
I can't wait to see how their story will progress!

  2. To say that I'm impressed is to say nothing.
I looked closely at the picture "Sorting out". What ideas kids have! And about my girl I have been telling her for 2,5 years years (as she had this question) that even if she doesn't see me or daddy, we still love her snd we live in her heart and it is for ever, we will be in her heart all her life. And now these are not only words but she feels it. I knew it but i'm still touched deeply.

ENERGY IN PRESCHOOL

FOOD CHAIN An order in which living things depend on each other for food. We have identified food as one of the things living things need to live.  This is the same for both plants and animals. However, we are not as lucky as the plants - they can make their own food!  The sun helps them make food through the process called ' photosynthesis'.   And because of this special power, plants are called producers. They start the food chain and transfer energy to the consumers. We have learned about the different animal groups and the preschool used their knowledge to create their food chain.    They chose one animal and using their knowledge about animals, they showed how animal get their food.  Next week, we will continue with our inquiry answering the question: How do animals go through a process of change? Working Together

TAKING ACTION The students are keeping in mind the importance of plants to all living things.  Plants - being the ONLY one that can make its own food, and Plants - being the ONLY one that gives us the air or oxygen to live. We have to do something to preserve the plants!   They started bringing all sorts of seeds to plant at school.  To watermelon seeds, onion stalks, flowers, grapes..  They chose a spot where the plants can get sunshine.  They dug the soil. Put in the seeds. And watered them. They did everything that the plants need in order to grow.    Students will take turns watering the plants daily.  Hopefully these tiny seeds will show us some sprouts before the end of the school year in Preschool.    HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES For the unit on How we express ourselves, the preschoolers used their imagination to create different art work on the ipad.  They chose their own  subject and used the different tools on the drawing...

First Week in Preschool

The preschoolers started the school year with the Enrolment Party.  The students together with their parents come to school all dressed-up and ready to attend their frist day in Primary School.  They were entertained by the frist graders who did the short play about the School cone. Afterwhich, they received their school cone from the teacher. Together, the new preschoolers and Ms. Faye went to the vist their classroom and enjoyed their first read-a-loud!  They did their first day of school work! I WONDER..... Since the start of the all inquiry is asking questions,  we started the unit on 'How we organize ourselves' with a lot of provocations.  Through these provocations, the preschoolers started forming questions and we gathered them and added in our wonder wall.  "Why do policeman and fire fighters and ambulance work together eventhough they have their orn jobs? " "Why do kids have to go to school? " " Why do paople make books? " " As good ...
