Book -Talks

Just what Neil Gaiman's quote says, "Books make great gifts because they have the WHOLE WORLD inside of them" , we schemed and scanned several unit books this week.

This then made the preschoolers think and ask questions about life and living things around them.

Once they have understood the clear difference between living things and nonliving things, we now focused on what life around us looks like.

Together with a partner, they did a BOOK TALK.

Together, they chose one book and sat down next to each other.
They opened the book and started talking about what they saw and read.

They reflected, wrote down new information they learned, and questions about the book.

Book Talk help students develop critical thinking skills by encouraging them as they analyze the information, evaluate, reason out, and form their own opinions about a topic.

This activity put simply, also helps develop student's social skills and communication skills. They learned how to listen, talk, and create a space where they are comfortable talking about their ideas with a peer.

All the new ideas and questions they created were added into their own space in our unit wall. These blue post-it notes will be revisited all throughout the unit. They will build on these questions and new ideas as they go through their whole inquiry cycle on how the world works.

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

A Day with Nature

From the moment we arrived at Rokkosan Pasteur, excitement was in the air.   The weather was perfect, the animals were curious, and of course the preschoolers couldn’t wait to explore! The highlight of the day? Meeting the  kids —not the classmates, but the adorable baby goats! The students were able to  feed, pet, and even cuddle the goats, horses, sheep . They were gentle and playful. Some preschoolers were a bit hesitant at first, but by the end of the visit, everyone was laughing and eagerly reaching out to connect with the animals. But this trip was about more than just the fun experience. The goal is to extend their learning about  animal care, natural habitat, and the effect of human to other iving things.  These experiences and observing how animals interact in a natural environment were learning in its most genuine form—engaging, memorable, and will have a long-lasting impact on their lives.    As the day came to an end, tired but happy p...
