Approaches to Learning

APPROACHES TO LEARNING (ATLs)

Preschoolers develop sets of skills and strategies that aim to help them become self-regulated and life-long learners. They develop different ways that help them "learn how to learn".

RESEARCH SKILLS
The preschoolers went through the process of gathering information to support their inquiry about living things.
Each group focused on one animal group.

They worked collaboratively with their group and used different strategies to ensure that each member did their part as a responsible member.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
After the research, they (synthesized) sorted out the information.
They wrote down the important details to share.

Lastly, they took turns reading and explaining their presentation.

THINKING SKILLS
As thinkers, they used their knowledge and critical thinking skills to answer questions. They confidently responded to each question from the class.

TAKING ACTION
It is the goal of the IB to develop students who demostrate agency -
choice, voice, and ownership.

Umi, brought to school watermelon seeds and wanted the class to plant it together.

Each group took turn and collected soil, dug a hole, put the seed, chose the best spot and watered it.

We will wait and see how successful we will be in taking care of our watermelon!

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

Summer

Have an amazing summer break to all!

A Day with Nature

From the moment we arrived at Rokkosan Pasteur, excitement was in the air.   The weather was perfect, the animals were curious, and of course the preschoolers couldn’t wait to explore! The highlight of the day? Meeting the  kids —not the classmates, but the adorable baby goats! The students were able to  feed, pet, and even cuddle the goats, horses, sheep . They were gentle and playful. Some preschoolers were a bit hesitant at first, but by the end of the visit, everyone was laughing and eagerly reaching out to connect with the animals. But this trip was about more than just the fun experience. The goal is to extend their learning about  animal care, natural habitat, and the effect of human to other iving things.  These experiences and observing how animals interact in a natural environment were learning in its most genuine form—engaging, memorable, and will have a long-lasting impact on their lives.    As the day came to an end, tired but happy p...
