Who we are

Who we are

The central idea, Understanding personal cultures, beliefs and traditions help us celebrate similarities and differences, an inquiry about beliefs, values, human relationships including, families, friends, communities, and different cultures.

In this unit, the students will inquire about different traditions, cultures and events, how cultures and traditions are passed on and preserved and the reasons for celebration.

Their knowledge and understanding will be strengthened as the students look at the different lenses on the key concepts; connection, perspective and causation.

As a Tuning In activity, they looked at different pictures of celebrations around the world. They used 2 colored post its to write down thoughts (in blue) and questions (in pink).

It was amazing how the preschoolers take on the tasks and already started coming up with wonderful questions related to our current unit.

We are excited to start next week with more learning engagements that will lead us to understanding 'Who we are'. We will look deeper on the concept of cultures, beliefs and their similarities and differences.

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

A Day with Nature

From the moment we arrived at Rokkosan Pasteur, excitement was in the air.   The weather was perfect, the animals were curious, and of course the preschoolers couldn’t wait to explore! The highlight of the day? Meeting the  kids —not the classmates, but the adorable baby goats! The students were able to  feed, pet, and even cuddle the goats, horses, sheep . They were gentle and playful. Some preschoolers were a bit hesitant at first, but by the end of the visit, everyone was laughing and eagerly reaching out to connect with the animals. But this trip was about more than just the fun experience. The goal is to extend their learning about  animal care, natural habitat, and the effect of human to other iving things.  These experiences and observing how animals interact in a natural environment were learning in its most genuine form—engaging, memorable, and will have a long-lasting impact on their lives.    As the day came to an end, tired but happy p...
