Just like yesterday,
We have written our stories today,
The next chapter begins tomorrow.
The preschoolers have concluded the unit on Personal Histories. They shared their presentation to the parents during the Publishing Party.
It was amazing how these young inquirers have developed in becoming good communicators.
They confidently read their autobiography entitled, 'My Story' to the parents. This book tells their stories from birth to present.
It also shares snippets of milestones and changes that happened to them through the years.
Some students also had the time to write a letter to their future self.
In this letter, they wrote their hopes and dreams about the future where they imagined they would be living in, what they would be doing or people that they will be with in the future.
This letter, a child's play of imagination helps build perspectives and creative thinking. It gives them an opportunity to think and be aware of the people, places or situations around them and decide what they want at that stage.
In their exhibit, they explained to the audience their creative Family Tree.
This tree is a visual presentation of the relationship of every member of the family.
They also shared the timeline they completed that shows the important developmental milestones each year. This task was challenging for the preschoolers, as they only relied on the information or stories they got from the parents.
However, as they were completing the task, what they didn't realize was that they were able to recall early experiences they had.
The accuracy of their stories are something that we, as adults, as parents should support them with. Confirming and validating these stories will help them build a strong sense of self.
It may be a mere story telling for them, but it will help them understand and celebrate growth and change and have a strong foundation about their personal histories - of their family and self.
The central idea, Personal Histories allow us to reflect on and celebrate growth and change, is big statement for the preschoolers.
But with the support from the preschool families, they were able to see that they did many things that they couldn't do before.
They asked questions,
made connections,
drew beautiful illustrations,
wrote lengthy words,
thought hard,
struggled,
laughed.
In the end, they accomplished something, and they were happy!
They are growing!
That's why we, The Perky Preschoolers - CELEBRATED!
