The First Week

"Please excuse the mess,
Preschoolers are learning... "

This week marks the start of these fives and sixes in Preschool!

We started the week with the Enrolment Party, wherein we celebrated the German tradition of  giving the school cone or the 'schultute'.
This is to encourage the young learners about the long academic road ahead.

Unit of Inquiry

In line with our unit on How we organize ourselves, the preschoolers chose class jobs that they will do to make our preschool classroom run smoothly.

They created a poster with a symbol to represent their job in the class.

We also sat down together and created our Perky Preschool Promise.
An agreement that we hold close to our hearts and promise to do throughout the school year.

Literacy
We are proud to say that this week, we have already read 8 books!
We have also started with the Jollyphonics and they have already put sounds together of 'a' and 's'.

What an amazing sight to see that the preschoolers have been enjoying reading time!

Numeracy
We have also started with our numeracy lessons and they have been so excited to open their new math books and answer the first few pages.

What a wonderful first week it has been with the Perky Preschoolers!

I can't wait to share more stories and experiences with this wonderful class!

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

Field Trip

FIELD TRIP Children who experience a holistic development during their younger school years grow up to become global citizens.  Taking the students out of the classroom  is important because it provides a balance between indoor and outdoor activities. It prepares them for what it is like in the real world.  As part of our unit on How The World Works which focuses on the science of living things, the preschoolers went out on a field trip to Rokkosan Pasture. In here, the students were immersed and had access to a different environment,  the farm habitat together with the animals who live there.  They experienced interactive learning by feeding and getting up close with these friendly and hungry goats. They observed how the animals shared space and played inside their homes. They were able to make connections on how they, as preschoolers socially interact with one another inside the classroom.   The parents who joined the trip also became the teachers a...
