Picture Walk
As part of the FINDING OUT stage in the Inquiry Cycle, preschoolers asked questions and posted their wonderings in our Wondering Wall. These young readers used their different skills and initiated how to help themselves in finding answers to their inquiries.
A strategy they learned is through a PICTURE WALK.
This strategy helps young learners develop reading skills. It involves looking at the pictures in a book to familiarize themselves with the information.
True enough, It builds interest and excitement to the preschoolers!
The activity encouraged students to be curious about important concepts and vocabulary that will help them later on as they start their research about community helpers.
This also students develop SOCIAL SKILLS as they communicated their ideas and without them realizing, made different connections such as:
Text to text
a connection from another book, stories, movies, or songs they heard
Text to self
a connection to their own knowledge or experiences
Text to world
a connection made to a community or what happened around them
We also delved deeper into the key concept on RESPONSIBILITY and together watched the interview they did with one of the members in their family.
We listed down all the responsibilities mentioned. We were able to find out the common responsibilities, the most enjoyable responsibilities and something that we hope could be a shared responsibility in the household.
As a springboard to next group in the community where the preschoolers belong to, we talked about our friend, 'NOAH'.
Noah represented each of them and the situations that would make them uncomfortable or sad, as a child.
Now, the Preschoolers' task is to find out ways to help Noah solve his many problems.
