Our Family

As Spider Man once said,

"With great power,

comes great responsibility"

We started our Tuning in with an understanding of a community is about. Together, we came up with a meaning of a community.

We then look into the smallest group in the community, the Family. The mother, father, brother, sister, baby. But we understood that each family is unique or different. There may be other different members in the family.

To come up with an understanding on how roles and responsibilities help organizations run smoothly, the students needed awareness of what the roles of each members are.

Then, the preschoolers looked at the many responsibilities of each members of the family. They thought about their own family and reflected the things that their mother, father, brother or sister, and including themselves, do in the house.

Using stick puppets, they created a story about, 'A day with my family'. Each one portrayed a significant role on that particular family activity.

SORTING ACTIVITY

After they heard some ideas and saw puppet show. they did a sorting activity. Through this activity, they manifested critical thinking skills as they used their prior knowledge, experiences and ideas they gathered from everyone in the class.

They carefully selected different problems in the house and decided if it is or should be done by the father, mother, sister, brother or everyone in the family.

They started honing their communication skills as they confidently shared their work to the class.

Next week, we will put our knowledge together to come up with ideas on what makes their household run smoothly.

PRESCHOOLERS and their FAMILIES

This representation helps them understand the roles of the mother, father, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, and cousins play in their life history.  The Preschoolers continued to inquire about the personal histories of their family. Field Trip

FIELD TRIP Children who experience a holistic development during their younger school years grow up to become global citizens.  Taking the students out of the classroom  is important because it provides a balance between indoor and outdoor activities. It prepares them for what it is like in the real world.  As part of our unit on How The World Works which focuses on the science of living things, the preschoolers went out on a field trip to Rokkosan Pasture. In here, the students were immersed and had access to a different environment,  the farm habitat together with the animals who live there.  They experienced interactive learning by feeding and getting up close with these friendly and hungry goats. They observed how the animals shared space and played inside their homes. They were able to make connections on how they, as preschoolers socially interact with one another inside the classroom.   The parents who joined the trip also became the teachers a...
