If fire catches,
"Everyone run outside!
Firefighters go inside!"
The Firefighters! Truly one of the bravest community helpers.
Inspiring young preschoolers about the importance of doing a responsibility - an action that makes a difference.
We are lucky that the Rokko Island Fire Station is just around the corner. The preschool students, teachers and some parent visited the station. They got to experience what firefighters do.
They got in the fire truck ad saw the most interesting tools and equipments inside it. An axe, mask, goggles, cutters, gloves, tank, these are just few of their (firefighters) favorite things!
They wore a special coat that protects the firefighters from getting burned by fire. The material was a bit thick, heavy and stiff.
Oh but that is just what the firefighters need to be safe from fire!
They also wear a special hard hat to protect them from falling debris. The gloves are also thick and heat proof that they can stand holding hot objects for some time.
But, in a normal day, they also wear comfortable uniforms and boots.
So now to answer the most important question:
"How do firefighters stop or kill huge fire?"
Answer....
Water!
The strong water pressure from the hose connected to the fire truck container, or the fire hydrant is used to stop the spread of fire.
The students understood that firefighters work closely with the paramedics. When there is a fire, paramedics will be called to make sure that injured people will get the immediate care.
What an amazing experience for the preschoolers to be able to see and talk to the firefighters and paramedics in Rokko Island community.
As part of sorting out, they realized that it is better to work together to make jobs easier and faster!
Reading Buddy
This week, the Upper Primary students shared their time to the Preschoolers and read a book to them.
It was lovely to watch as bigger students acted as a good role model to the Preschoolers in reading. They patiently answered the questions and ofcourse asked them questions too.
This collaborative activity is a step up to diversifying the 'teaching and learning' reading program at DSKI.
Ms. Harris and I are looking forward to more collaborative activities between the Lower and Upper Primary students!
Our kids learned a lot from the community in RIC and in the School! I like such collaborations . Thank you for the meaningful program!
