A part of us

"Let us save in our children's MEMORY BANK, treasures that cannot be taken away from them. Be in their past, present and future"

- Ms. Faye -

Not all of us here are from Japan, or from Kobe. Some of us are from different countries, but we are all here in this classroom. We are right here.

Why do people travel or move to different places?

Their responses were astounding!

"Our parents want to take us to an adventure"
"Because of war. Some wants to be alive."
"To be with their family."
"Because they want be with the one they love and get married."
"To work."
"To study."

They created a space where we can realize that indeed, there is a purpose why people are at the same place at the right time. It gives us opportunity to look at change in different perspectives.

During this inquiry, the word 'LINK' came out.
This extended the conversation to why we are all connected to the past, when mommy was pregnant, and they are also connected to their grandparents and other relatives

Rose explained, "We are linked to our mommy's tummy (pointing at her belly button) with a long string and we eat from that."

Jinn explained, "Dad's seeds had the 'race' to mom."

They realized that this was the same and also happened to their parents, their  grandmother and grandfather....

To understand the 'link', we looked at a Family Tree. A visual representation of the links or the relationship between the members of the family - history of their family.

We will continue finding out more about their family history in the weeks to come.

NUMERACY

In connection to the unit, they understood that they are both parts of mom and dad.
So we inquired about FRACTIONS, specifically identifying and visualizing 1/2 or half.

They challenged themselves showing halves using many 2D shapes.

Setsubun
Setsubun literally means "seasonal division" and is a festival held on the day before the beginning of spring. This is according to the Japanese lunar calendar.

We are looking forward to SPRING!

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

Summer

Have an amazing summer break to all!

A Day with Nature

From the moment we arrived at Rokkosan Pasteur, excitement was in the air.   The weather was perfect, the animals were curious, and of course the preschoolers couldn’t wait to explore! The highlight of the day? Meeting the  kids —not the classmates, but the adorable baby goats! The students were able to  feed, pet, and even cuddle the goats, horses, sheep . They were gentle and playful. Some preschoolers were a bit hesitant at first, but by the end of the visit, everyone was laughing and eagerly reaching out to connect with the animals. But this trip was about more than just the fun experience. The goal is to extend their learning about  animal care, natural habitat, and the effect of human to other iving things.  These experiences and observing how animals interact in a natural environment were learning in its most genuine form—engaging, memorable, and will have a long-lasting impact on their lives.    As the day came to an end, tired but happy p...
