Family the heart of a community

"With great power comes great responsibilities."  - Spider Man

UNIT OF INQUIRY (UOI)
What are roles and responsibilities?

This week is about FINDING OUT and understanding that everyone has many different ROLES or "HATS" to wear.
One is a child, a brother, a student, a friend, and a lot more depending on the hat he/she is wearing.

Along with the role comes the responsibilities.

But, what exactly is the difference between a ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES?

This photo explains the difference of the two.

Talking about hats, Ms. Faye gave each preschoolers their own colorful;
Reader's and Thinker's (invisible) hats!

Family: The heart of the community

A COMMUNITY is composed of people, places, trees, living and non-living things, buildings and different things working together.

A FAMILY is a group of people living together in a house. They love and care for each other and do things together.

The preschoolers talked about the members of their own family. They identified every member and understood that families are different from one another. However, every member has to share different responsibilities at home so that the house will run smoothly.

FAMILY STICK PUPPETS

These stick puppets will change the entire classroom next week as it will be used by the preschoolers to show their creativity in creating their own story.

It aims to give opportunities to students to explain the roles and responsibilities of every member of the family at home.

NUMERACY
Using counters on Ten Frames as concrete manipulative examples in counting helps the preschoolers develop strong math concepts through visual stimulation.

These also helps them form understanding of the place value.

Given one ten frame, they were challenged to show Ms. Faye 15 counters. You could hear the panic when they answered, "We don't have enough counters Ms. Faye!."

But then, the 'AHA' moment kicked in when they realized that they could put together their frames to make 15!

Thinker's hat on right?

So together we continued showing and counting numbers 10-20.

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

Meet the Animals

Students have been actively engaged in preparing for our upcoming Animal Exhibit, showcasing their learning through research, creativity, and collaboration. Each student selected an animal of interest, explored its habitat, diet, and unique adaptations, and created a visual display to share their findings. This week the preschoolers worked in teams to group animals according to their natural habitats—such as grassland, fresh water, polar region, ocean, and forest.  Together, they collaborated to research the features and designed a small-scale habitat that reflect the unique features of each ecosystem. This group project fostered teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity as students and teachers combined their knowledge and ideas to create cohesive, informative, and visually engaging designs.  The final displays beautifully showcase both the diversity of animal life and the power of collaboration. As part of the preparation, preschoolers will practice presentation skills and t...
