The circle of life

LIFE CYCLE

round..
goes around and around..
never ends...
repeats...
-Perky Preschool-

It is amazing how everyone (children and adults) gets hooked when talking about life. The depth and perspectives of the conversation vary between child and adult's but both agree on one thing - that life is full of wonder!

Based on their questions, the students started researching informations about some of these wonderings:

"Why do animals and other living things die?" - Leanna
" Why do animals kill each other?" - Kai,
"Why do fish and sharks kill other small fishes?" - Mathieu

Several prompts, videos, books and examples helped them gain an understanding about FOOD CHAIN.
Together we came up with a the meaning.

It is a process where organisms depend on each other for food.
It is when energy is transferred to other living things.

They discovered that a chain involves  Producers who makes their own food. Consumers  are organisms that feed on other organisms. ex: lion, people

Then, they created their own example of a FOOD CHAIN.

They also started developing their skill as a RESEARCHER.

They used the unit books in the classroom to research about animal from 3 groups of their choice. This initial research exercise will train and give them confidence when they start on their independent research.

We also continue to observe the beans they planted. Some have already grown taller and they started measuring the height of the sprout using cm.

NUMERACY
FRACTIONS

To develop and strengthen conceptual and abstract math, the preschoolers explored fractions.

Fraction is important to children to understand a WHOLE and PARTS

This also made them understand the concept of sharing, caring and equality.

Next week, preschoolers will continue researching about different animals: form, habitat, life cycle, food chain, and important facts about it.

For Numeracy, they will continue with fractions and also exercise skills in measurement using centimeter (cm).

For Literacy, they will develop skills in informative writing which they will use for the output in our unit, 'How the world works.'

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

Field Trip

FIELD TRIP Children who experience a holistic development during their younger school years grow up to become global citizens.  Taking the students out of the classroom  is important because it provides a balance between indoor and outdoor activities. It prepares them for what it is like in the real world.  As part of our unit on How The World Works which focuses on the science of living things, the preschoolers went out on a field trip to Rokkosan Pasture. In here, the students were immersed and had access to a different environment,  the farm habitat together with the animals who live there.  They experienced interactive learning by feeding and getting up close with these friendly and hungry goats. They observed how the animals shared space and played inside their homes. They were able to make connections on how they, as preschoolers socially interact with one another inside the classroom.   The parents who joined the trip also became the teachers a...
