"Not all who wander are lost"

WHO LIVES IN OUR HOME?
After learning about their personal history, the preschoolers moved into inquiring about their family's history. They created a simple visual representation of their home and those who lives in it.
It is necessary for them to understand the importance of these family members in their lives. Every member plays an important role in their developmental milestones from birth to present and the reason why they are where they are right now.
JAPAN
Everyone in the class had their own histories and stories and reasons why they are here in Japan and studying at DSKI. They aware of their differences and the Preschoolers have embraced their internationality and uniqueness.
By looking at the map and the globe, they developed their curiosity about land forms such as continents, countries and bodies of water.
Together, we were all excited exploring Google Earth!
We located the countries that our parents were originally from, where they have traveled, and where they are and we are at the moment - Rokko Island at DSKI!
This activity allowed them to visualize the distance of countries and places around the world. People travel across oceans and land for many different reasons.
A springboard to the example: How their parents meet and the rest is history...
FAMILY TREE
What is a Family Tree for the Preschoolers?
"Everyone in the whole family is connected."
"A family that lives in a tree."
"There are people in the family: grandparents, children, brothers, sisters, daddy, and mommy."
They created a creative representation of their own family tree and they will continue working on it next week. They will also inquire more about their grandparents and to understand themselves more.
CHANGE
Involving the whole DSKI community in their inquiry to the meaning of 'change'. The preschooler's baby photos and recent photos were posted on the hallway for people to guess.
Teachers and students couldn't help but notice how some Preschoolers look very similar from their baby photos !
