Becoming Researchers

VIDEO
As they continue to develop a deeper understanding on How We Organise Ourselves, the preschoolers explored different materials that they can use for their future research.

They watched educational videos to inform them about the roles of different community helpers. As we watched together, we had the flexibility to pause, rewind, and discuss important information about the community helper.

Then, they worked independently and responded to the questions:
What are the responsibilities of the community helper?
What might they look like?
What tools do they use to do their job?
How are they important to us?

BOOK WALK
"Reading is the gateway for children that makes all other learning possible."

Book walk is a way for the students to make predictions about might be happening in the book. They don't have to be readers yet to understand what's happening in the book.

Learning is fun when it is shared with a friend!
Together with their partner, they sat down and talked about the pictures in the book. They shared what they know, their connections and their own experience in connection to the book.

SPEAKER
Preschoolers met a writer today!
Jessica Chavez (Mia's mom) came to the class and shared with us interesting information about her job.

Using pictures, the preschoolers created a short story.

Once upon a time, a brave knight traveled to a forest in search of treasure.
While looking for her treasure, she was chased by a terrible shark.
But with the help of a kind Godzilla,
she made it home to her fabulous castle.
She lived hapilly every after.

Check out this cool animation that she wrote!

These experiences lead them to decide to research on one particular community helper.

Next week, they will start their journey to becoming writers and illustrators. They will begin to write an Informative Story about the community helper of their choice.

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

Summer

Have an amazing summer break to all!

Entering the world of imagination

Children use imagination to write poems and create artworks in wonderfully instinctive and unfiltered ways.  They are not constrained by thinking or grammar rules and truly believe simple things in life.  This kind of imaginative freedom allows them to create words and images that we might not even consider. They use personal experience and reimagine things. They write freely without filter and   mix real life with fantasy to create rich, expressive writing. They can use this form of writing to develop self-confidence and connections with themselves and others.  In Artwork, they use their creative imagination to create symbolic representation that we, as adults, could never have imagined.  Children represent the world how they feel it, not just how they see it.  Their artworks become a portal to an entirely new worlds. In this unit on  how we express ourselves,  preschoolers will be encouraged to use: Open-ended materials (like...
