Book and Culture Week

This week, DSKI celebrated Book and Culture Week with the Theme:

"Weaving Diversity Through Reading and Culturally Responsive Learning."

Preschoolers enjoy reading during our D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) time.

They enjoyed the stories read to them by the Preschooler parent volunteers.

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth. Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families. It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. Entering the world of imagination

Children use imagination to write poems and create artworks in wonderfully instinctive and unfiltered ways. They are not constrained by thinking or grammar rules and truly believe simple things in life. This kind of imaginative freedom allows them to create words and images that we might not even consider. They use personal experience and reimagine things. They write freely without filter and mix real life with fantasy to create rich, expressive writing. They can use this form of writing to develop self-confidence and connections with themselves and others. In Artwork, they use their creative imagination to create symbolic representation that we, as adults, could never have imagined. Children represent the world how they feel it, not just how they see it. Their artworks become a portal to an entirely new worlds.
