 UNIT OF INQUIRY

Preschoolers are GOING FURTHER in their INQUIRY about Roles and Responsibilities.

They are making sure that they have enough information and questions are answered. They used several resources such as books, videos and pictures to find the answers.

They have also started with their project. They are writing their informational book and will launch their First Publishing Party and interview with the Author.

CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING IN NUMERACY
Preschoolers is now starting to see and understand the relationship and interconnectedness of numbers in different ways. Using different manipulatives, they are able to make their thinking visible. This also enables them to fully grasp the concept of numbers.

How do we support Conceptual Understanding?
SENSE MAKING. Preschoolers are asked questions and their explanation to show their understanding.

MULTIPLE REPRESENTATION. They are able to show their understanding in different ways. This practice help them have a deeper understanding.

SCAFFOLDING. By providing students differentiations and allowing them to manipulate the numbers within their current level of skills.

TIME. Conceptual understanding happens over time. They are developed after repeated practice and exposure. They need to struggle with the concept to fully understand the process.

Here is a video of some Preschoolers showing their conceptual understanding. They are  showing different ways to make numbers.

Night of the Student Led Conference

Preschoolers practice for their upcoming Student Led Conference (SLC) by engaging in mock sessions with peers and teachers. These practices help the students build confidence as they learn to talk about their artwork, classroom routines, and personal growth.  Using the checklist prompted by visuals like portfolios and photo displays, preschoolers explain their learning journey in simple, meaningful ways. Practicing ahead of the actual conference allows them to feel prepared and proud to share with their families.  It fosters communication skills, independence, and a strong sense of ownership over their learning — all foundational for future academic and social success. During the actual Student Led Conference, preschoolers experienced a range of emotions. Some felt nervous facing their parents, while others were visibly tired or overwhelmed by the attention.  A few needed gentle support to stay engaged. On the other hand, many confidently shared their work, explained clas...

Meet the Animals

Students have been actively engaged in preparing for our upcoming Animal Exhibit, showcasing their learning through research, creativity, and collaboration. Each student selected an animal of interest, explored its habitat, diet, and unique adaptations, and created a visual display to share their findings. This week the preschoolers worked in teams to group animals according to their natural habitats—such as grassland, fresh water, polar region, ocean, and forest.  Together, they collaborated to research the features and designed a small-scale habitat that reflect the unique features of each ecosystem. This group project fostered teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity as students and teachers combined their knowledge and ideas to create cohesive, informative, and visually engaging designs.  The final displays beautifully showcase both the diversity of animal life and the power of collaboration. As part of the preparation, preschoolers will practice presentation skills and t...
