Who am I?

This week was such a busy week for all the preschoolers as they put together their research about their country. They made sure that information were written down on the posters to be able to share their knowledge and understanding to their audience.  It was amazing to see how they have put their efforts and hard work on this exhibition. They helped one another and collaborated with other students of the same country. But in the end, you will see the uniqueness and diversity of each student in the preschool class.  We are excited to invite you all on the Preschool Cultural Exhibit - Who am I. This will be on the 10th of March from 9.00 - 10.00 am.

Let us find out more!

So they say,  "Food brings people together." In the traditional Chinese culture, dumplings symbolizes wealth and prosperity.  They are often eaten over the Chinese Lunar New Year, when the whole family is together to celebrate. Dumplings are shaped like ancient Chinese gold or silver ingots, which symbolizes wealth.  The students experienced the preparation of    jiaozi  or what we know as dumplings. They started off by flatening the dough using their hands or a rolling pin.    Once the dough was ready, they added a teaspoon full of ground meat.  Then they folded the dough and made sure that they sealed the edges by pressing them together creating a moon-shaped dumpling.  Thanks to our amazing parents, Annie, Cliff, and Yoshie for cooking and preparing the dumplings for the students! Finally, they ate the delicious dumplings in class! Eating and sharing these dumplings hopefully will help the students remember the Chinese culture of weal...

Learning more about cultures

100th Day in Preschool We celebrated our 100th day in preschool! The day to reflect and celebrate their success.   It is also the day to motivate and challenge themselves for future learning  One hundred handprints - one hundred high fives!   This week the preschoolers found out a lot of information from our moms,  Madeline and Niki! We learned about Scotland its beautiful landscapes and vibrant culture. and we all shouted FREEDOM!  Then found time to complete our research paper and we wrote down information about Scotland.  Another beautiful country we learned a lot about was New Zealand.  After we watched this video, we tried to do our best PUKANA! Next week we will continue finding out more about our own countries and put them all together to share to our DSKI families.  We are looking forward to our Culture Week Celebration in March!

Our Country

Know your country. Appreciate your culture.  It is important to know your country's culture to also understand who you are.  As young researchers, the preschoolers looked for information and facts about their country.  They looked at the flag and what it signifies, the population, the capital, food, and popular places. This activity helps them develop cultural awareness which is important as they begin to understand that they came from different backgrounds. Learning about their differences creates a sense of appreciation and respect with people different from them.  "We are better at football!" "Our food is better!" But, it is not a competition of which country is better in football, bigger in size, or which hair color looks better.  It is knowing that they are all here together to celebrate everyone's similarities and differences.    As they become knowledgeable about the bigger picture of their own culture, they also learn to relate better to one an...
